Converting to Another Currency

If data has been entered into a client’s historical statement using a particular currency and you need to change the currency, you can change the currency selection for the statement and convert the data in the statement to a different currency.

If the wrong currency was selected when the statement was created and data has been entered into the statement for the intended currency rather than for the currency that was actually selected, all you need to do is change the currency selection (which you do through the Edit Statement Information dialog box). You do not need to convert the data.

When you use the application's currency conversion, the application actually creates a copy of the selected period with the converted data. The period you selected to convert remains unchanged in the statement.

Note: A period must be in balance before you can convert it.

Steps: Convert Currency

When you convert a period's data to another currency, you create a new period for the second currency while retaining the original version of the period, in its original currency.

Note: Be sure to perform currency conversions in order — start with the first period and then go on to the second, third, and so on. Please note that if the exchange rate changes from one period to the next, the net worth reconciliation will not flow properly and your statement won't balance.

To change the currency for an existing period that already contains data entered under the original currency selection, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the header cell for the period you want to convert, and choose Currency Conversion from the menu that appears.

  2. Complete the fields in the Currency Conversion dialog box that appears.

  3. Click the Convert button.

The application creates a new period containing the selected period's data converted according to the exchange rate you entered.

The period you selected remains in the client's statement. If desired, you can remove it from the periods displayed in the spreadsheet or delete it altogether.
